Ghee, why we need to have it!!!..sounds like a dream right??

Ghee- Myth of our modern life.



Ghee is prepared by simmering butter, which is churned from cream, skimming any impurities from the surface, and then pouring and retaining the clear, still liquid fat, while discarding the solid residue that settled on the bottom, The texture, color, and taste of ghee depend on the quality of the butter, source of the milk used in the process and the duration of the boiling. Ghee has been integral part of our life in India.
Peeking into our history ghee was not only known as source of food but also used an eternal part of traditional medicine and religious purposes too due to its high nutrients facts. Ghee is not only used by Indians but used across globe for different reasons. We as a Modern Indian had inclination towards ghee only in terms of high in CHOLESTEROL and FATS (Big fat words), blame it to our generations who failed to cascade the knowledge from our forefathers or history.
As a nutrition Ghee has following Facts, which would also let us know the benefits.
1) It has SCFA(Short chain fatty acids)- Most essential fat we need to burn fat, but we just look at the word FAT. This helps fat burning process to reduce fat from those stubborn areas. It also nourishes, heals intestine and reduces inflammation of the gut wall.
2) Reduces GI (Glycaemic Index), increases digestion and supports in weight loss- We all love eating carbohydrates ..ohhh sry  (Now a days people are calling their food as carbs, minerals protein etc.) Rice, khichadi,  roti, paratha, biryani and how do
we need to help our digestive system to digest these foods and reduce its glycaemic index is by adding ghee to it. Thats the reason our Daadi or Aaji or Grandmaa used to tell us to add ghee on our rice and daal. We all are ignoring their wisdom.
3) It enhances absorption of nutrients like Vitamin D:  Ghee increase the ability of the intestinal wall to absorb vital nutrients. To avoid deficiency of nutrients, one must have ghee along with their regular food. Now moving towards Vitamin D which is most fashionable deficiency now a days. Since Vit. D is fat soluble vitamin we need to have good fats, SCFA which is in GHEE. Vitamin D plays a vital role in keeping your
hormone balanced, regulating thyroid gland's functioning and in order to achieve that we need to have ghee. Hence, during and after pregnancy or during menopause Ghee helps you to overcome Vitamin D deficiency. Remember Vit. D is important for calcium absorption too.
4) Cleansing and rejuvenating properties: Ghee has excellent cleansing property. It helps our body to remove toxins stored in the body and heal it and rejuvenate cells.
5) Helps in reducing CHOLESTEROL:  Sounds like a dream right?? Yes its true. Ghee reduces cholesterol by increasing the contribution of lipids to metabolism. Its our liver, who produces excess cholesterol under stress. Ghee helps you to get de-stressed and to get better sleep
6) Good for your BRAIN: It increases mental reception, intellect and memory.  It is beneficial for mental and emotional imbalances, as well as a depleted, sensitive nervous system
7) Increases Immunity: Ghee is an amazing medicine for increasing energy, strength, immunity, vitality and stamina.

8) It has a high smoking point: Are you worried about adding ghee tadka on your daal?? Pls dont worry...Ghee has a high smoking point so u can definitely use it for sauteing or tadka.
9) Last but not the least important...It helps your skin to glow because of its moisturizing properties. It is also recommended to apply ghee externally before going to bed to get glowing and moisturized skin (even for lips too) and who doesn't want that healthy glow on the skin??
The ultimate question is what would be the appropriate consumption of ghee? Now, you must be thinking ...how much ghee to eat everyday?? or how much quantity is allowed?? Well answer to this is actually depends on how much physically active you are and exercise you do....but general recommendation is, for normal active (not inactive) person 2-3 tablespoon a day or ½ - 1 tablespoon per meal.

Gods meals are considered incomplete without ghee, we still add ghee in Panchamrut mixture of Milk, Sugar, Honey, curd and GHEE also known as 5 Nectar's of life which is served to god as food and prasadam to humans. So, lets have GHEE one of the Amrut and live healthy life.
